1) How Long does it take to make an artificial eye?
normally it would take three(3) visits for a prosthetic eye to be finished.
that would include getting the shape of your eye socket, painting the prosthetic eye to match your normal eye and polishing it for a glossy and comfortable finish.
2) are there instances where it would take longer than 3 days?
Yes, many factors can affect the duration of the process such as:
- how many years the inside of the eye socket didn't have any conformer shells or prosthetic
- The Sulcus(the space in between your eye and the eyelid) collapsed
and many more.
3) How much does one prosthesis cost?
This is probably on of the most common email I get regarding questions about Artificial Eyes. Prices differ depending on the status of your Eye socket. It would be best to have it examined first by the Doctor that will make your Prosthetic Eye.
4) Does is look 100% like your original eye?
No, there are things that makes the original eye appear more obvious than the fake eye( e.g. Movement, color in different lighting, etc..). However, there are techniques that could make the prosthesis less obvious which will be discussed by your Doctor.
5) Does it need to be cleaned all the time?
Depending on the amount of discharge, some people clean their prosthesis 2 to 3 times a week as some only remove their prosthetic eye once a week.
